20th October 2007
On Friday 12th October 'Independent Women' attended EBWA Annual Barn Dance and presented them with a cheque for £6,364.01.
The road to raising the money:
We have decided to raise money for Women's Aid (East Berkshire), and have set ourselves a target of raising £5,000. As some of you are aware, Karen's cousin Julie Pembarton was murdered by her estranged husband in November 2003 as a result of domestic violence.
Listen to a recent interview Karen gave to BBC Berkshire about her choice of charity.

Women's Aid is the national domestic violence charity that helps over 320,000 women and children every year.
They work to end violence against women and children, and support over 500 domestic and sexual violence services across the country.
Here is what East Berkshire Women's Aid had to say when we told them we were going to raise money for them!
“East Berkshire Womens Aid are absolutely delighted that the Independent Women are making such a tremendous effort in order to raise much needed funds for the organisation.
We rely heavily on donations and fundraising in order to continue to provide our much needed services to women and children suffering Domestic Abuse in the local area.
The Proceeds will go towards a new People Carrier which is essential in helping us transport women and children on trips and outings, collecting families at crisis point and helping them move on to their new homes. We wish the team the very best of luck on the day and offer our sincere thanks for their support”
