Imagine the challenge of taking a group of independent business people who have never stepped in a rowing racing shell before but who want to compete against other local businesses - in just two months! Now imagine the pressure those eight individuals come under as they merge their competitive business characters with their competitive sporting ones. The pressure racks up a great deal more when you realise that these eight individuals are all women …..and the only ‘all female’ crew in the Reading Rowing Club Corporate Eights competition.
Rowing racing eights requires power, absolute milli-second timing, control and most of all precisely coordinated teamwork.
Given that these women are just what it says on the tin – Independent – bringing them together into just such a team is an interesting challenge for both the coach and themselves. It has been fantastic to see this disparate group come together and begin to forge themselves into a team.
Not only that but a team that has set itself two very demanding goals – not only to try and win the corporate eights event but to raise a massive sum of money for the Women’s Aid Charity.
With them I am enjoying the challenge of helping them achieve the first goal. We all hope that whoever reads this will help them achieve the second.
